Why should I use a self test kit?
In Nigeria, about 1.9 million people are living with HIV. This translates to approximately 10 people in every 1000 are infected with HIV, and 3 in 10 of those infected do not know that they have the virus. The greatest number of new HIV infections in Nigeria occur in young women.
Low HIV testing coverage among Men, young people and other vulnerable populations remains a challenge. Many among these populations do not visit clinics or health facilities to conduct an HIV test due to fear of stigma and discrimination, or difficulty travelling to clinics from their community.
HIV self-testing is promising because it allows people to test in a private setting either alone or with someone they trust.
